A Sanctuary Care home in Chester is extending a warm invitation to local military veterans to join its monthly Veterans’ Breakfast Club, offering a welcoming space to connect, share experiences and forge friendships.
The club, taking place at Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home in Caldecott Close, on the last Wednesday of every month from 10am to noon, will include a complimentary breakfast, refreshments, and plenty of conversation.
As a Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) accredited care home, Upton Dene is committed to recognising and supporting the unique experiences of those who have served in the Armed Forces. The home achieved the nationally recognised status in recognition of its dedication to meeting the practical, emotional and social needs of the armed forces community and has established strong links with local veterans' groups to help veteran residents remain connected and engaged.
These include residents Tom Parker and fellow resident Tony Roberts, whose service histories continue to be an important part of life at the home.
Tom, who is 102, and served with the Royal Corps of Signals between 1944 and 1947, spent time stationed in Malaysia and Singapore transporting personnel and supplies. He regularly takes part in veterans’ events and community activities through the home's VFF programme.
Meanwhile, Tony joined the RAF at just 16 years old and trained as a photographer at RAF Cosford. As an air camera fitter, he installed, serviced and repaired cameras on RAF aircraft, as well as downloading aerial footage. During his service, Tony completed four tours in Germany.
And it’s not just the residents who are from the military community, Team Leader Clare Moynihan is herself a former Army Sergeant who served for nine years, including deployments to Kosovo and Macedonia. Having experienced the transition from military to civilian life herself, she is passionate about helping veteran residents maintain their sense of identity, belonging and camaraderie.

We know how important those shared connections can be, which is why we're opening our doors to veterans across the community. The club (last Wednesday of every month from 10am to noon) is free to attend and veterans are welcome to simply drop in. Upton Dene is in Caldecott Close, Chester, CH2 1FD.
