The new Northwich Market will open on Friday 18 September at Barons Quay.
Doors will open at 9.00am, with Northwich Mayor Cllr Robert Cernik, and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Rachel Waterman, on hand to cut the ribbon and officially open the market.
Occupying a prime corner location within Barons Quay, the new market will offer a significantly improved experience for customers and traders alike with a wider choice of stalls and facilities, including indoor and outside dining.
One wall of the market features the sixty-year-old ‘Indoor Market’ sign from the old market which has been restored, plus there will be fifty hanging fish and crayfish mobiles made by local Northwich primary schoolchildren inspired by the nearby River Weaver hanging over the seating area.
The first traders in the new Northwich Market were confirmed last month, offering a mix of food, drinks, produce, gifts, beauty and fashion, tech repairs and more.
There will be a delicious variety of food and drinks to enjoy in the market, including:
Casa de Sal Bar, from the experienced team behind Northwich’s The Salthouse and Bullring Bars, will provide the market's dedicated bar; offering a carefully curated selection of Spanish themed beers and wines alongside spirits and soft drinks with a focus on quality across the board.
Bean & Cole will provide a specialty espresso bar - serving coffees and teas, pastries and cakes, alternative soft drinks, acai bowls, smoothies and juices. This will be their third outlet alongside two in Chester, including the market.
Habib's Shawarma will offer authentic Lebanese shawarma made with freshly grilled lamb and chicken, plus a selection of grilled Lebanese favourites, including lamb kofte, alongside grilled halloumi and freshly made falafel as vegetarian and vegan options, using their own house spice blends, toum (garlic) and tahini sauces, served with colourful salads and pickles in soft pittas or as loaded boxes with rice or fries, made with quality ingredients and bold flavours.
Spuds 4 U will be the place for fully loaded jacket potatoes with a variety of toppings, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. They also have outlets in Chester city centre and Macclesfield Market.
The Chicken Hatch will be cooking buttermilk fried chicken burgers, strips and wings served with house made sauces, pickles and slaws.
Loco 4 Tacos will be offering a large variety of freshly made authentic Mexican-style tacos with a modern twist. The focus will be on delivering high-quality, flavourful, and affordable street food that appeals to a wide range of customers. Each taco will be served on toasted soft corn or flour tortillas and filled with a choice of freshly cooked meats, vegetarian, or vegan options, accompanied by homemade sauces and toppings.
Thai by Thai is one of Chester Market’s most popular food stalls, with a fantastic reputation for fully authentic Thai and oriental street food and great value. Their menu includes starters, including spring rolls and fishcakes with main dishes range from stir fries, noodles, rice and curry.
The goods, services and produce stalls in the new market include a new addition to the line up – RetroFits who will be joining the new Northwich Market with a double stall, bringing a curated mix of vintage clothing and retro sportswear to the heart of the town centre.
Specialising in retro American sportswear and vintage football shirts, RetroFits stocks an ever-changing selection of one-off pieces for adults and children, including NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL clothing, varsity and sports jackets, branded sweatshirts and hoodies, band tees, vintage football shirts and accessories.
Rick Dickens and Nic Ashbrook established RetroFits in Northwich earlier this year and are excited to bring the business into the town centre:
We’re really excited to become part of the new market and a vibrant community of independent traders in the centre of Northwich. We’ve both lived here all our lives, so being able to grow RetroFits right in the heart of the town means a lot to us.”
"RetroFits is about finding something a little different. Many of our pieces are one-off, unusual or hard to find, from vintage American sportswear and football shirts to iconic branded clothing you simply won't see in every other shop. You'd normally expect to travel into Manchester, Liverpool or another big city to find this kind of vintage sportswear store. We're really proud to be bringing that experience to Northwich.
The other goods traders include:
The Style Hut is an award-winning ladies’ fashion boutique making the move to the new market from the old Northwich Market in Weaver Square.
Beauty Wow will offer a comprehensive range of premium hair and beauty products, catering for Afro and European hair types. Their carefully curated selection includes nourishing shampoos, conditioners, styling tools, wigs, hair extensions, and skincare essentials from top brands along with beauty products, makeup, and beauty tools.
Candy Bay will be a traditional sweet stall with a twist by also selling freeze-dried candy, alongside sugar-free and vegan options.
E Phones Northwich will be a second outlet in Northwich, to build on their established reputation as the place to go for phone, tablet, tech and gadget repairs and a wide range of accessories.
oneministore will be a unique specialist gift stall that combines two complementary product lines: premium Japanese stationery and handmade preserved and dried flower decorations. Shoppers will find a lovely range of stickers, stamps, washi tapes, writing instruments, notebooks, and more, alongside beloved character themed products like Snoopy, Moomin, Sanrio, and Studio Ghibli. Their handmade floral arrangements feature modern Korean and Japanese design styles that are rarely available in the UK.
Steve’s Cheeses will provide an extensive range of the finest artisan cheeses, from rich, mature cheddars and creamy bries to exciting flavour-packed favourites, there will be something to tempt every cheese lover. Alongside cheeses, you'll find delicious artisan charcuterie, handcrafted chutneys, crackers, preserves, wines, craft beers, and plenty of other tasty treats to create the perfect cheeseboard, gift hamper, picnic, or special occasion feast.
Pop Specs will be opening a unique eyewear concept in the new market, with the emphasis on great frame designs, competitive pricing and speedy delivery with glasses ready in 20 minutes, along with fun. Aiming to provide customers with a style consultation for selecting a frame design, recommendations on the lens, and within twenty minutes have their new glasses ready to be fitted.
Opening the new market is a key milestone on the plan to deliver a new chapter for Northwich town centre, with ION Developments and Cheshire West and Chester Council working in partnership to create a new neighbourhood at Weaver Square in the heart of the town.
The vision sets out proposals for sustainable town-centre living, with around 200 high-quality homes including affordable homes, comprising a mix of houses and apartments alongside improved public realm and flexible event spaces, as well as a proposed new bus hub for the town centre. Councillor Nathan Pardoe, Cheshire West and Chester Council Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Regeneration and Digital Transformation said:
It is great news that the new Northwich Market is almost ready to open, we are looking forward to seeing it thrive. Northwich residents will soon have the chance to visit the new market and sample the fantastic food, drink, goods and services that will be on offer. The new market is significant milestone for the town, and brings something new to Barons Quay.
“The new Northwich Market will have a fantastic mix of traders with something for everyone. It will be a much-improved experience for visitors and traders in a prominent location, a fully accessible social space with indoor and outdoor seating, and will offer a greater variety of food, drink and goods traders along with free WiFi and toilets for public use.
“The Council is committed to its markets across the Borough, they are important social spaces that attract people into town centres. Public shopping habits and expectations have changed, and the Council has responded to this by creating a new market that is fit for the future, and that Northwich can be proud of.
